After Vito's arrest and the signing of a peace and protection accord among the four powers, an alliance of ancient families behind the purge of the Vito family ten years ago launches a coordinated assault through financial, royal, underground, and werewolf-border forces to keep the truth buried. Layla discovers that her missing mother, Mara, had investigated the same case. Guided by Layla, Nora, the middleman, and their four allies use lawful investigations, witness testimony, and missing ledgers to uncover Adrian Vale as the man who ordered the cover-up. Vale is arrested after his final attempt to destroy the evidence fails, and Layla ultimately chooses her own home, welcoming the four men on her own terms.
